Don't try these improvement projects at home - MarketWatch

From shows on the DIY network and on HGTV, you could get the impression that the majority of homeowners love to purchase fixers and spend every weekend on enormous home improvement projects.  Well, it's more like 5%, but the value of making the right improvements to your home is definitely there.

I say the right improvements because
excessive personalization will not improve your home's value, and may in fact detract from it.

Then there are the projects that are really over the head of the average homeowner, and can lead to disaster.  That's the topic of Don't try these improvement projects at home, a description of DIY efforts that can go very wrong.  So be careful out there (and in the home improvement store as well)! - David
