The new good faith estimate rules, now in effect, require lenders and escrow companies to do a more precise job of estimating closing costs.

The problem is,
 the rules are written in a way that will delay closings if estimates change by even a small amount near the closing date.  Another example of good intentions codified into law by people who don't understand the implications upon the real world.  Still, a clearer understanding of closing costs is a good thing. - David
